Meet Susie Pearce, local artist and art educator....

Susie is a local artist who recently moved back to her ancestral roots in the wildly beautiful Cornish tin and copper mining countryside and now resides in Lanner, at the foot of Carn Marth.

After studying Fine Art at UCA, she honed her craft under the expert tutelage of Winsor and Newton accredited artist, Kim O’Neil.

Having exhibited previously in the UK, Spain, Italy and Hungary, Susie has sold work to private collectors both nationally and internationally in the UK, Switzerland, Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

Susie teaches art and contemporary painting and in 2023 opened Elements School of Art Cornwall, with venues across South West Cornwall.

"A Journey of a Thousand Miles", by Susie Pearce, Sharjarh International Airport Hotel, UAE

"I have been teaching art to adults for over 15 years now, as well as maintaining my own art practice. I teach because I love it. I have a genuine enthusiasm for it and love nothing more than to inspire that creative spark in others.  As a mother to 4 boys, I would say that nurturing is in my DNA. This definietly crosses over into my teaching and I often find myself saying how I feel like a 'proud parent' when students push themsleves and produce incredible work. It's so rewarding and in turn, that inspires me and feeds back into my own art practice".  Susie Pearce

Frequently Asked Questions....

Are the classes suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! Classes are designed in such a way as to work for all different abilities. The small class numbers means that Susie can give each student individually tailored guidance and tuition. The supportive and friendly environment means that everyone feels valued and included, no matter what your level of experience or ability.

What art supplies do I need for classes?

The course descriptions give basic details of what to bring to each session. If you are unsure, please reach out beforehand for more detail. Susie encourages students to use their own materials and gradually build up their own kit and paper supply so they can practice at home. We can either recommend or supply quality materials for students, if required. Just please let us know in advance. There will be extra materials and paper on hand in class if anyone needs to use them just for the lesson. We do try and keep materials to a minimum. There is no need to rush out and buy everything all at once. Smaller items, like masking fluid, for example, will be provided for the class. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with any queries you may have.

What can you offer me as an experienced or professional artist?

Susie is an extremely experienced and knowledgeable artist, and has expert knowledge particularly in her own chosen field, acrylic painting. She can help you loosen up, learn how to develop into abstract painting, provide you with a myriad of ideas and show you techniques and mediums you may not be familiar or comfortable with. If you are suffering from 'Artists block', she can inspire and kick start your journey with you.

Do you provide refreshments?

Yes! You will have access to tea and coffee as well as biscuits and sometimes cake! No extra charge. Some students bring their own snack

What is the class schedule like?

There are weekly classes at Budock and Lanner, which you can attend as many or as few of as you like. Workshop dates and times vary but you can always get the latest information from the 'OUR COURSES' page, on schedules.

What is the atmosphere in the class like?

The classes are very friendly, informal and relaxed. Each class dynamic is slightly different, but you can always be sure of a warm welcome and a supportive environment.

Can you tell me a bit more about the style of teaching?

Elements Art is all about warm, friendly, encouraging, supportive and engaging teaching. Susie is particularly good at giving constructive critique and explaining how to improve a piece of work in a considerate and thoughtful manner. It is important at Elements Art that each student is nurtured individually and given the tools and encouragement to develop their own artistic voice.

What are the class numbers like?

Small classes are paramount to the ethos of Elements Art Cornwall. This ensures that Susie can spend time with each student individually and help them with what they need from the class. Currently most classes are between 6 and 10 students per class. You aren't just a 'number', at the back of the room. You will get personalised tuition, guidance and feedback during each session.

What does 'flexible payment options' mean?

You can either pay for a series of classes up front at the time of booking, or if it is easier for you, you can 'pay as you go' on a class by class basis, giving you total flexibility.

Do you offer evening or weekend classes?

Evening classes will be coming soon, as well as one off weekend workshops. Please feel free to contact us with any requirements or queries about this. The website 'Courses' section will be updated as soon as these become available.

Any other queries?

If you have any questions not answered here, please feel free to get in touch via the Contact page.
